A young sensation

When two-and-a-half year old varuna started scribbling on the notepad, her parents, artist AP Shreethar and Nirmala, didn't realise she would one day make heads turn with her interesting paintings. Now, close to nine she has made her parents proud. "Varuna grew up in atmosphere where everyone kept talking about canvas, oil and acrylic. She used to scribble with crayons on the notepad and wall and whatever white space she could find. And then, her scribbling slowly took the form of figures," saya a proud Nirmala.

Varna's ninth paiting exhibition, tiny pixel, was inaugrated on National Technology Day(may 11) by PC Sreeram and was attended by director Pandiaraj, actors Kishore and Sriram, and singers Rahul Nambiar and naveen Mad-hav. But, Varuna seems undeterred by the fact that biggies from the industry have taken time off to see her paintaings. "PC Sreeram is a cinematographer and he has deep interest in art and technology. on seeing my paintings on digital art, he was impressed. he blessed me and called me a child pridigy. he said that during my 10th show, he will come and get my autograph. I felt proud," giggles Varuna.

Like an experienced artist, she says, "The theme of my exhibition is- 'Everything is possible'. That's why I have sketched a cycle flying in the sky. I read many books on modern art and learnt the basics of digital painting. I have used painter software for this exhibition. Otherwise, I also use acrylic, water colours, photo ink and drawing ink."

Ask her what influences her to sketch and says she, "I get influenced by myself. I have lot of ideas which i want to transform in the canvas. My father is also a big artist and he helps me in giving shapes to my ideas. I also read a lot. My school is also very supportive. They also encourage me to attend drawing competitions."

Varuna has a dream she wants to realise soon. "I like MF Hussain and picasso very much. Their drawings are well appreciated. A lot of people study their works and they are even included in syllabuses. I want to be like them. I want my art works to go down in history and be remembered by people. I hope to accomplish that very soon," signs off this young artist with confidence.
