The return of Gandhi

If GAndhi were to return to our world, what would he find? How relevant are his teachings in the present day context? The answers to these questions will be provided in a film being made by director ABalakrishnan in Tamil titled MUDALVAR MAHATMA.

Balakrishnan had earlier made the critically acclaimed KAMARAJ, and has kanakaraj, whodid a cameo in the film as GANDHIJI, doing the same role on a bigger scale in his new film.

Says director A Balakrishnan, "The main story line focuses on how things would be if Gandhiji were return to the world after 60years of our independence. In my film, god sends Gandhiji to a modern day Indian village where he meets a film institute graduate played by newcomer Sundar. He finds villagers travelling in sumos, speaking on mobiles and farmers commiting sucide. He comes face-to-face with today's politicians and their vote bank politics."

The story line looks similar to Rajkumar Hirani's LAGE RAHO MUNNA BHAI, but balakrishnan points out, "No.It has obsolutely no similarities with the Sanjay Dutt film. Here, Gandhiji is sent by God to earth to take a look at the society that has undergone vast changes, and how his teachings can lend more meaning to life in today's scenario."

Balakrishnan has read extensively on Gandhi and was inspired to make this movie after reading books like My Experiments with truth.

MUDALVAR MAHATMA will be completed in 35 days and has been shot at several places, includin Probander.

The film is scheduled to be released on August 15.
